Serious injuries and death in New Orleans accident

On Behalf of | Apr 17, 2014 | Car Accidents

Two men in New Orleans who were practicing to participate in an upcoming Ironman competition had those dreams shattered in an instant, when they were struck by a vehicle, while biking on the roads. One of the men, a 36-year-old was tragically killed in the accident. The other, a 40-year-old man, survived, but suffered serious injuries and is in the hospital receiving treatment.

The car collision occurred on a Friday morning, just two days before the Ironman competition was scheduled to take place. The two bicyclists were biking down Chef Menteur Highway when they were both rear-ended by a Chevy Cruze that was traveling in the right eastbound lane. The bicyclists and the vehicle were traveling in the same direction.

At this time, the accident is still under investigation and authorities are unsure of what caused the driver of the Cruze to strike the bicyclists. No charges have been filed, and no arrests have been made. However, that does not mean the investigation will not lead to such occurrences.

When a car collision takes place, there are often injured parties. It is therefore important to execute an investigation to determine whether any of the involved parties acted negligently. If they did, they may be held liable to the other parties and be required to compensate them for medical bills, pain and suffering and even potentially for lost wages.

Sometimes, when residents of New Orleans are involved in a car crash, a pedestrian accident or other collision that results in injuries, they may just be under the assumption that they do not have a cause of action. They should work toward paying off the unexpected financial obligations that arise, while also trying to heal emotionally and physically. Nonetheless, this is not always the case, and it is always important for those involved in an accident to evaluate their options for recovery.
