A tragic accident that occurred recently in Louisiana has left some community members, as well as employees of the Racing Commission, shocked at their loss. The car collision resulted from a sudden lane change. This unexpected and sudden movement by one driver led to the untimely and unfortunate death of another.
The man that was killed was the 74-year-old Chairman of the Louisiana Racing Commission. The accident happened around 1:00 in the afternoon. As the man was driving down the highway, a 22-year-old female driver in the opposite lane crossed over for unknown reasons and hit the man’s vehicle head on. The man was reportedly not wearing his seat belt and tragically died at the scene of the accident.
This accident remains under investigation and authorities are still unsure what caused the woman to cross into oncoming traffic. However, once the investigation is complete, if police determine that one party’s negligence led to the death of the man, then his surviving family members may be able to recover compensation.
In many tragic incidents like this, the best way to recover compensation is by filing a personal injury lawsuit. In this case that would be a wrongful death lawsuit because the victim died from the accident. When one or more individuals are killed by another party’s negligence, their surviving loved ones can recover monetary compensation.
This compensation will help them pay for unexpected financial obligations such as medical bills, funeral bills and lost wages. In some cases the surviving family members may also be able to recover pain and suffering compensatory damages.
